When to choose the Beginner Lure
The Beginner Lure is the first inexpensive way to broaden the Fishing Rod pool on Forest Island. It costs $3 and opens several collection entries, but the catch can still vary. Choose it when you need Forest species; use the free pool when every coin is reserved for a weapon or story supplies.
Recorded catch pool
Base values describe the creature before sale modifiers. This list identifies possible catches; it does not specify their probabilities.
| Creature | Base value | Encounter |
|---|---|---|
| Piranha | $4 | Regular catch |
| Goby | Not recorded | Regular catch |
| Pike | $12 | Regular catch |
| Cod | $10 | Regular catch |
| Goldfish | $24 | Regular catch |
| Perch | $18 | Regular catch |
| Triggerfish | $18 | Regular catch |
| Salmon | $14 | Regular catch |
| Sunfish | $50 | Boss encounter |
Plan the fishing trip
Buy a small batch, then decide what the next trip is meant to achieve. Goldfish has a recorded base value of $24, while Piranha starts at $4. That spread makes a single successful cast a poor measure of the whole lure pool.
Keep a weapon ready before reeling the creature onto your working area. Clear the catch, record any new species and sell only bodies that are not being kept for food or a separate objective. Several modest catches can fund a useful equipment purchase without starting a boss fight.
Keep the next objective in view
This lure does not replace the Forest quest. Giant Piranha requires Leech Bait from the three-Leech exchange. Spending on more Beginner Lures will not advance that step.
Sunfish appears in the reference pool, but The Old Pike is assigned to the Beginner Boss Lure. If the missing entry is The Old Pike, change the lure instead of repeating ordinary casts.
Check a known creature in Fishipedia
Patch 1.1.3 added a bait-name hint to Fishipedia after you have defeated a creature once. Use that hint when revisiting a known catch, especially if your installed version includes content beyond this reference pool.
