Collect three, then make the exchange
The Forest quest requires three ground Leeches. Gather the complete set and return it to the lady by the lake to receive Leech Bait. This is an exploration-and-trade step; repeated casts with Beginner Lures do not complete it.
Keep the collected quest objects together as you search. Checking the count before returning to the lake avoids interrupting the final preparation with another circuit of the island.
Make the trade before the boss attempt
The trade reward is the bait for Giant Piranha. Equip the Fishing Rod and the quest bait, then prepare a working area with room for lateral movement. Fund the weapon and supplies first using the regular Forest pool if necessary.
During the encounter, keep attention on the story boss rather than letting every additional threat pull you away from the objective. The important end state is a defeated Giant Piranha and its trophy under your control.
Return the trophy to advance
After the fight, preserve the trophy and complete the Forest hand-in to reveal the Desert route. Selling valuable catches is useful for equipment, but the story trophy has a separate destination.
Beginner Boss Lures are for Sunfish and The Old Pike. They can help with collection goals while you are on Forest Island, but they do not substitute for Leech Bait or open the next stage of the story.
