When to choose the Beginner Boss Lure
The $40 Beginner Boss Lure is a Forest collection purchase for Sunfish and The Old Pike. These encounters are separate from the island’s Giant Piranha story objective. Buy it when you are ready to fight and need one of its entries, rather than expecting it to unlock the next island.
Recorded catch pool
Base values describe the creature before sale modifiers. This list identifies possible catches; it does not specify their probabilities.
| Creature | Base value | Encounter |
|---|---|---|
| Sunfish | $50 | Boss encounter |
| The Old Pike | $80 | Boss encounter |
Plan the fishing trip
Prepare a clear landing area and enough damage to finish the catch before casting. The lure costs much more than the $3 regular option, so arriving without a workable weapon turns a small collection task into an avoidable supply problem.
Note which boss is missing before the trip. Sunfish is also recorded in the regular Beginner pool; The Old Pike is assigned to this boss lure. Seeing Sunfish first does not mean that the other entry has been collected.
Keep the next objective in view
The two recorded base values are $50 for Sunfish and $80 for The Old Pike. These are unmodified sale values, not expected net profit: ammunition, combat bonuses and the outcome of the cast all affect the result.
For main-story progress, return to the three-Leech exchange instead. Leech Bait is what starts Giant Piranha, and the trophy from that fight advances the route.
Check a known creature in Fishipedia
Patch 1.1.3 added a bait-name hint to Fishipedia after you have defeated a creature once. Use that hint when revisiting a known catch, especially if your installed version includes content beyond this reference pool.
