Separate the fishing loop from the land search
Forest becomes the next destination after the Lighthouse shell exchange. Its ordinary fishing and Beginner Lure encounters can build your budget, but the main quest also requires walking the island. Repeated fishing casts will not collect the Leeches needed for that exchange.
Look for ground pickups around the Forest and lake route, and keep a count as you collect them. The reviewed requirement is three Leeches. Do not sell part of the set while clearing space for catches.
Trade the complete set at the lake
Bring all three Leeches to the quest giver by the lake. The exchange produces Leech Bait, which is your entry to the Giant Piranha fight. Finish healing and preparing ammunition before you use that bait so the encounter begins on your terms.
Choose a stretch of shore with room for lateral movement. Keep the main target in view during the fight; chasing every smaller threat can pull you away from the space you prepared. If your route is becoming crowded, regain a clear view before committing to more damage.

Return with the trophy
Secure Giant Piranha’s trophy and finish the Forest hand-in. The yellow Desert marker is the useful confirmation that this stage is done. If it has not appeared, recheck the trophy exchange before returning to ordinary fishing.
Sunfish and The Old Pike belong to optional collection work here. Their Beginner Boss Lure attempts can be planned around your available money, but neither replaces the three-Leech story route. Record optional progress separately so it does not obscure the next departure requirement.
