Campaign encounter facts cover the launch route reviewed for Patch 1.0.10. This rewritten guide is not a new gameplay test. Later updates add encounters; check Fishipedia and the update archive for your installed version.
Read the Scientist’s request before filling the quota
Speak to the Scientist and supply the five requested fish to receive the Fish Bucket, also described as Whale Bait. Use the active request in your save to decide which fish to retain; the fact that a catch came from Volcano does not by itself confirm that it completes a requested slot.
Bowhead Whale is the setup encounter in the ending route. It is distinct from the optional Goblin Shark and from the Mutated Bowhead Whale that follows.
Prepare for the chain before its first cast
Finish weapon purchases and stock ammunition and healing before using the whale bait. Plan where to recover the body and how to reach the final trigger. Having another major fight ahead makes it useful to preserve supplies even when the first phase is nearly over.
- Keep the quest bait until the group is ready.
- Leave room to handle a large defeated creature.
- Assign one player to preserve and move the body in co-op.
Keep a route around the creature
Maintain space from the whale’s body and keep a direction available for retreat. Deal damage from a position that lets you see its movement, then move before its size or the surrounding terrain cuts off your options.
Do not make your survival depend on firing without interruption. Break away to heal or reload when necessary and return with a clear view. The encounter was subject to earlier balance changes; this page does not present a current health or damage threshold.
The first whale is not the campaign finish
Preserve the defeated Bowhead and take it to the final encounter trigger. Selling it turns a progression object into money and leaves you needing the setup again.
Restock before moving the body into the trigger if the first fight used most of your resources. The mutated phase and the subsequent ending sequence still remain.
