Base equipment prices, damage and catch pools: Patch 1.0.10 reference. These figures are not a new playtest of the latest release.
Where the Assault Rifle fits
The Assault Rifle is a $20,000 Volcano purchase with a recorded base damage of 40 per shot. It is a large late-game commitment intended for sustained ranged pressure. Plan the purchase alongside the Scientist’s request and the two-stage whale sequence.
Prepare the purchase and the encounter
First list what remains necessary for the ending: five requested fish for the Scientist, the resulting Whale Bait, recovery supplies and usable combat equipment. Buying the rifle should leave that route executable.
Use surplus Volcano catches to build the budget while keeping requested fish out of the sale pile. Scientific Lures cost $500, so the earning loop itself also needs working money.
Make the weapon work for the trip
Keep the target visible and use a firing position that allows you to move. Sustained fire is useful only while shots connect; pause to recover the sightline when the target or the crew’s position changes.
Prepare supplies for the mutated follow-up before triggering the first whale. After Bowhead Whale falls, preserve the body for the next step instead of treating it as an opportunity to cash out.
Compare the complete setup
Forty damage per shot is a base reference, not a complete performance comparison with the 200-damage Sniper Rifle. The weapons differ in how they deliver damage, and this catalog does not provide a tested damage-per-second ranking.
The $5,800 Scientific Boss Lure is another substantial Volcano expense, but it serves optional Goblin Shark collection. Decide explicitly whether that purchase comes before or after finishing the story.
Store equipment deliberately
Patch 1.0.10 introduced saving for up to 64 ground items, with equipment, quest items and creatures among the priorities. It also added cleaning for cooked weapons and tools by dipping them in water. Treat ground storage as limited, and keep track of important equipment before ending a session.
