Complete the Scientist’s request
Speak to the Scientist and collect the five fish requested for the hand-in. The reward is the Fish Bucket, also referred to as Whale Bait. Read the request before farming so required fish are not accidentally sold with the rest of the haul.
Scientific Lures are the regular fishing supply for this stage. Keep quest fish, sale fish and recovery supplies in separate groups while preparing the final equipment budget.
Prepare for two fights before starting one
The bait triggers Bowhead Whale, but this is not the end of the sequence. Stage ammunition and cooked healing with the mutated follow-up in mind. Completing one encounter with all supplies exhausted can leave the crew poorly prepared for the next.
The $5,800 Scientific Boss Lure is for the optional Goblin Shark encounter. It is not a substitute for the Scientist’s reward, and buying it is not required to begin the whale chain.
The defeated whale becomes the next trigger
After Bowhead Whale is defeated, preserve the body intact for the mutated phase. Do not sell or cook it as an ordinary high-value catch. At this point the important quest object has changed from the Fish Bucket to the whale body.
Continue through the mutated fight and the ending transport sequence. The route is complete only after the ending steps, so remain with the objective rather than assuming that the first whale kill finishes the game.
