Buy it for a specific missing entry
The Coconut is a purchased trigger for Bing Bong, a special creature entry on the Desert route. At $350 it is a meaningful optional expense at this stage. Check your collection before buying it and decide whether the current trip is for completion or story progress.
Compare the other Desert expenses
Standard Lures cost $15 and help gather regular fish, including the recorded Tourist trade choices. The Standard Boss Lure costs $280 and is the dedicated Blue Shark option. The Coconut has a third job: the Bing Bong catch.
These prices are useful for ordering purchases. If the crew still lacks a weapon or needs a fish for the Carrot exchange, complete that preparation first. Reserve Coconut money explicitly so an optional catch does not use the supplies intended for the next story fight.
Keep the catch separate from the story chain
Equip the bait deliberately, make the catch and handle it as a collection objective. Do not expect Bing Bong to produce the Pufferfish fin or reveal Rocks Island; that progress comes from the Carrot-triggered boss.
If you have already defeated this creature in a version with Patch 1.1.3 or later Fishipedia hints, inspect its bait-name entry before repeating the trip. The hint is a useful check when returning after a long break or switching between several Desert objectives.
